HISTORY
On Tuesday, February 21st 2006, the Argentina Polo Tour
was set on track, as an initiative taken by two of the
most important figures in this sport, Gonzalo Pieres
and Adolfo Cambiaso. This tour consisted in six weeks
of pure polo, on which players and patrons went through
the spectacular fields of the following clubs: Tortugas,
Centauros, La Aguada, Ellerestina, La Dolfina and Jockey
Club. Based on the idea of avoiding too much traveling
and taking advantage of the argentinian weather, which
is ideal for the state of game fields, the Polo Tour
was born with a lot of impulse, and it promises to become
a new polo season which will benefit everyone who makes
a living out of this sport.
The
first experience was highly positive, with talented
players such as Milo Fernandez Araujo, Bartolome Castagnola,
Horacio Heguy, Gonzalo Pieres, Adolfo Cambiaso, Jaime
Garcia Huidobro, Martin Garrahan, Tomas Pieres and Marcos
Di Paola, among others.
Pieres
and Cambiaso aim for the future growth of the Polo Tour,
and contemplate the possibility of playing some finals
in Palermo, a dream many patrons and players of medium
handicap have always chased. The first test was highly
successful and everyone was impressed by the state of
the fields. This is a very positive aspect, since in
other countries tournaments are usually played on the
same fields, which logically leads to their deterioration.
In Argentina there's a wide variety of clubs, each one
close to the others. This guarantees an experience that's
unique in the world.
